Professor F. Calogero from University of Rome Visited USTC

????At the invitation of USTC vice-president Cheng Yi and Professor Li Yishen, Professor F. Calogero paid a visit to USTC in October.
????As an internationally renowned professor of mathematical physics, Professor F. Calogero's research covers a wide range of fields, which include the quantum field theory, the solvable dynamical systems, the scattering theory and the integrable non-linear partial differential equation. In his academic career, Professor F. Calogero enjoys a close relationship with universities and research institutes in many countries.
????Professor Calogero is also a well-known social activist. From 1989 to 1997, he worked as General Secretary of the Pugwash Conference on Science and World Affairs, which was sponsored by Russell and Einstein as a peaceful organization devoted to arms control, nuclear disarmament and anti-terrorism.
????Professor Calogero has long been promoting the cooperation and exchange relations between University of Rome and USTC. During his stay at USTC, he delivered a lecture on "Partial Superintegrable Systems and Nonlinear Harmonic Oscillators". His latest research results in many-body problems aroused the interest of those present at the lecture. Professor Calogero later held a discussion with professors of the Department of Mathematics to share his perspectives in the frontier research trend in nonlinear science.
