On 27th October, the US Consul General Kenneth Jarrett pays the visit to USTC. President Zhu Qingshi meets Mr. Jarrett and warmly welcomes the guests. He gives a brief introduction of the current development of USTC. President Zhu reviews his study in Massachusetts Institute of Technology. USTC vice president Hou Jianguo and director of Foreign Affairs Zhang Mengping witness the meeting.


Consul General Kenneth Jarrett delivers the speech on Sino-US ties to USTC staff. He states that USTC has frequent scientific and academic exchanges with US peers. Now there are several thousand USTC graduates study and live in US. Mr. Jarrett gives detailed analyses on Bush government's policy to China, the achievements and challenges in Sino-US ties individually. He says that US hopes to establish "frank, cooperative, and constructive" relations with China. Recently US and China carry out the fine cooperation on national security, politics, health and trades, while the inevitable challenges are still lying in the Sino-US relations.
 After the meeting, the audiences raise the variable questions concerning with politics, military, studying abroad and visa application. Mr. Jarrett gives the fine elucidations to every question. |
