USTC Delegation Visits Moscow State University and St. Petersburg State Technical University

USTC Delegation Visits Moscow State University and St. Petersburg State Technical University
Headed by USTC vice-president Fan Weicheng, a USTC delegation visited Russia from September 17th to 27th. The purpose of the visit was to pave the way for and further establish an inter-university relationship with Moscow State University and St. Petersburg State Technical University in Russia to promote academic cooperation and exchanges in the fields of information sciences and engineering sciences. The delegation members included Prof. Gong Huixing, dean of School of Information Science and Technology, Prof. Wang Jindong, assistant dean of School of Information Science and Technology, Prof. Cheng Xiaofang, assistant dean of School of Engineering Science and dean of Department of Thermal Energy and Power Engineering, Prof. Kong Fanrang, assistant dean of School of Engineering Science and dean of Department of Precision Machinery and Instrumentation, Prof. Lu Xiyun, dean of Mechanics and Mechanical Engineering and Prof. Yangjie. director of USTC Foreign Affairs Office and professor in charge of robot research project. Great importance was attached to the visit and financial support was provided to cover the necessary expenditures of all the delegation members while in Russia by the Bureau of International Cooperation under the CAS.
The USTC delegation visited the two universities and some of their schools, departments and labs in Russia and received a warm welcome from those in charge.
In a friendly atmosphere on October 25th, an agreement between St. Petersburg State Technical University and University of Science and Technology of China was signed to promote cooperation among the fields of radio physics, mechanical automation, robots and complicated engineering calculation.
On September 26th, the USTC delegation discussed a cooperation with the vice-president in charge of international affairs in Moscow State University. Both sides agreed that the current 1989 agreement was out of date and new areas of cooperation were to be negotiated and that the new agreement would be drafted by USTC and renewed by the two parties through mailing the signed copies to each other.
USTC vice-president Fan Weicheng emphasized after the visit that cooperation between USTC and the two universities in Russia was a serious matter, and expressed the wish that cooperative relationship between related USTC schools and the universities visited in Russia be firmly established within the year to capitalize on the fruits of this visit.
