| The 3rd National Symposium on the Fostering of Masters of Engineering Held at USTC |
????Sponsored by the Office of Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, the 3rd National Symposium on the Fostering of Masters of Engineering was hosted by USTC in Hefei from Oct. 10th to 13th. More than 260 representatives from relevant administrative departments and universities attended the meeting. More than 60 papers on the themes of "The Education Quality Guarantee for Masters of Engineering", "Correct Handling of the Relationship between Self-decision and Self-discipline, Quantity and Quality in the Practical Education of Masters of Engineering" and "The Construction of the Fostering Plan and the Quality Appraisal System in the Education of Masters of Engineering" were presented to the symposium. ????The degree of Masters of Engineering was set up in 1997 with the purpose of cultivating senior professionals for middle and large state owned enterprises. In the past five years, over 56,000 students have been enrolled as master students of engineering whose majors cover 35 specialties in about 140 universities. A great number of the students passed their thesis debates and earned their master's degrees of engineering. They are now playing an essential role in the engineering construction, technological development, application and innovation in many state owned enterprises. ????USTC was granted the right to confer the degree in 1999. At present more than 680 students have been recruited as engineering postgraduate students majoring in electronics and information, computer technology, cybernetics, machinery and instrument, chemistry, dynamics and software. USTC has established cultivation bases for masters of engineering in Beijing, Shenzhen and Suzhou.
