USTC Zhouzhi Scientific Investigation Team Complete the Missions Perfectly
2005-08-24

The investigation missions carried by USTC Student Scientific Investigation and Exploration Association in Shanxi-based Zhouzhi National Natural Reserve are completed perfectly. On August, 9th, the team is back to USTC safely. Among the 14-day session of investigation, there are 8 days for team staying in the deserted zone of the reserve where they can observe the snub-nosed monkeys, antelopes and other national protection animals.

The team reaches the Anjiaqi protection station in Zhouzhi Reserve on July, 29th. The next day, they advance into the buffering zones of Anjiaqi protection station and set up the investigation bases at Songhuaping patrol sentry post. Team has twice been to the main ridge of the Qin Mountains against the rains as to observe the snub-nosed monkeys, but failed. It is the third time that team has searched for the monkeys on August, 3rd and they finally observe a group of around 200 snub-nosed monkeys at Longwanggou sited at 1600 elevation meters. The team members track this monkey group and do investigation records. The team again climb up to the main ridge of Qin Mountains bearing loads and camp there with an aim at observing more snub-nosed monkeys for comparative analyses on August, 4th. The following day, team runs into heavy rain on the way down to the bases. The members help and co-operate with one another, then at last arriving to the destination safely.

This investigation is extraordinarily hard, for there are many areas without trails and team has to fight a way. Besides, the team meets with heavy rains many times. Despite of those hard conditions, the team finalizes the missions perfectly at last. Through this investigation, the members get much deeper understandings on snub-nosed monkeys; raise the awareness of protecting wild animals; breed stronger willpower and associative spirits and get know of local customs and people living situations, hence they strengthen the sense of historic responsibility.

This large-scale scientific investigation is prepared form May of 2005. The Scientific Investigation and Exploration Association carry the trainings on physical performance, living in the wild and investigation knowledge and other relevant aspects to the nearly 40 enrolling students. At last, there are fifteen students being selected as the members of Zhouzhi scientific investigation team. And two media journalists cover the whole activity with team.
