MPRC Batch Production Standard Passes Final Appraises

Multi-gap Resistive Plate Chamber (MPRC), which is used in time of flight (TOF), is developed by theory of relativity heavy ion collider (RHIC) STAR experiment team from American Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). Nowadays, MPRC batch production standard passes Chinese and foreign experts' final appraisals. It is another milestone in MPRC development history since August, 2000.
 
USTC standing vice president Hou Jianguo meets Chinese and foreign expert delegation, led by STAR'S spokesman Prof. Timothy Hallman. Professor Hallman appreciates USTC high energy physics laboratory's prominent performance and brilliant contribution in cooperating with STAR to develop MRPC. Hou Jianguo expresses that USTC will continue to support its cooperation with STAR and he hopes to foster more talents and get greater achievements.
 
The Chinese and foreign expert team consists of Prof. T. Hallman from American BNL-STAR cooperation team, Dr. G.Eppley from TOF project, Prof. Huang Huanzhong from UCLA, president assistant Researcher Xu Hushan from CAS Modern Physics Institution, and Professor Liu Feng from Hua Zhong Normal University. The expert team earnestly listens to the reports about MRPC standard formulation, production craft, quality monitoring, and carefully scrutinizes the related documents on MRPC external dimensions, performance index, production process, quality examination and quality control. Then they come to Tsinghua Miyun production base and USTC MRPC development laboratory to examine MRPC manufacture and quality control procedures. After three-day intense appraisals, the expert team expresses extreme satisfactions to each preparatory work, and gives very high appraisal that MRPC manufacture has already entered specialized and commercial stage. MRPC, which is produced according to current production craft and quality guaranteeing procedure, has achieved, even surpassed quality requirements in STAR-TOF project. The expert team agrees to start MRPC batch production by the plan, and requests to consign first batch of MRPC, totally 128 sets, before August 16, 2006.
