Polymer Nanocomposites for Flame Retardation Project Agglomerate Listed in "Advanced Materials Exclusive Project of Hi-Tech Industry and Development Program" in China

Recently, the researchers of the State Key Laboratory of Fire Science modified clay by inorganic or organic compounds and designed nanocomposites from molecular. They prepared microstructure of nanometer in polymer and manufactured a new, clean, efficient and flame retardant material, namely, the flame retardant polymer/layered inorganic nanocomposites. The achievement has been classified into the advanced materials exclusive project of Hi-Tech industry and development program of China by the State Development Planning Commission. The government will carry out the project by investing RMB eight million (8,000,000) into the Engineering and Technology Research Center for Thermal Safety, CAS. In nanocomposites, one or many components are equally dispersed into another matrix with nanometer and molecule size. Because of superfine, the properties of many kinds of nanocomposites are improved greatly to compare with macroscopical or microcosmic composites. Flame retardant polymer/modified clay nanocomposites combine polymer with inorganic compound together soundly, which was designed by artificial microstructure, intercalation nanocomposites and exfoliation nanocomposites. What is more, a new flame retardation technology was used in this flame retardant material, which got over the deficiencies of previous materials. The general technologies are on the international advanced level and some key technologies achieve the international leading level.
