Suzhou Graduate School of University of Science and Technology of China (the School) is jointly established as a non-profit public institute of high education by University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and Suzhou Municipal Government, managed in a pattern of a second-rank school of USTC.

The School is operated with the main purpose of making full use of the top-class talent resources and education resources of USTC to cultivate students with advanced skills in scientific research, technique and management to accelerate a rapid and steady growth in regional economy; meanwhile, effectively taking advantages of the economic expansion, the rising collection of investment and funds from domestic and overseas consortia and the sound international renown of Suzhou City achieved in recent years to supply USTC with a healthy center for scientific research and promote technical development and translation of the research achievements obtained by USTC, further intensifying the combination of production, teaching and research.

The School is aiming at:
(1) building a classic education base for graduate students in Suzhou Industrial Park relying on the obvious superiorities of international reputation, teaching experience, excellent faculties and scientific research strength possessed by USTC;

(2) building a outside-facing window for translating of scientific research results achieved by USTC to promote the cooperation between USTC and enterprises home and abroad with the favorable geographical and economic circumstances of Suzhou City;

(3) exerting the comprehensive superiorities of cooperation of USTC and Suzhou to turn the School into a carrier for domestic and international elites;

(4) exploring new methods and patterns for graduate education compatible with practical situation of China by referring success practice of the world.

The President takes responsibility of the School under the leading of the Board of Directors which is the decision-maker of the whole School. The Board of Directors adopts combination Board Chairman System, under which Board Chairmen are appointed respectively by Suzhou Municipal Government and USTC. Both of Suzhou Municipal Government and USTC sincerely welcome the joining of any other enterprises, universities and R&D institutes and their participation in construction and micro-management to the School.

The President is appointed by USTC while Managing Vice-President, who shall have both success management experiences on graduate education and fair authority in scholarship, will be globally wanted.

The School is located in Suzhou Graduate Schools Park, and its first-phase construction project with classrooms and laboratories covering a floor square of over 20,000 square meters, will be completed by Sept. 2003.

The School is sitting to the east of Dushu Lake and the south of Outer South Ring Road covering 10 square kilometers.

The School is planning 1000 students for her first stage and about 2000 for middle stage. Specialties for starting period are involved in fields of Information Science and Technology, Life Science and Biological Technology, Management Science and Engineering. Enrollment of students starts in 2002 and all students accepted will accomplished in the first year their program courses in USTC (Hefei) and then carry out research and development work and dissertations in the School during the following two years.

The School will gradually enable part-time and various forms of schooling as follows:

Master of Engineering (Computer Technology, Electronics and Information Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Control Engineering, Instrument Engineering, etc.)

MBA, EMBA, MPA and MTA

In addition, a branch of Software School of USTC will be set up in the School to develop informal schooling and training below:

Master of Software Engineering

Schooling for the second Bachelor's Degree (Computer Software) for undergraduates in the same year or previous years.

All the activities in the School, such as enrollment, course study, research and dissertation defence are under a unified administration of USTC, as well as diplomas and degree certifications of the School.

Graduate Advisors employed by the School, mainly come from three sources:

Employ top scholars from home and abroad as full-time advisors;

Employ outstanding graduate advisors from USTC as part-time advisors;

Employ excellent talents from home and abroad, especially from universities, institutes and enterprises in near surrounding areas as part-time advisors.

At the Fifth Session of the Twelfth People's Congress of Suzhou City, among the government work report delivered by Mayor Yang Weize, the construction of Suzhou Graduate School of USTC is honored to be one of the key projects of this year.
